Art Basel Miami Virtual Event

December 3 6:00-7:30PM / Via Zoom

Every year, once Thanksgiving is over, the Art World flocks to Miami Beach for some art, food, drinks, parties and sunshine. This year, Art Basel has created an online viewing room platform for galleries around the world. We can’t guarantee sunshine, but we can promise you some great art, a little Miami architecture and a taste of Miami fare at our Virtual ICA goes to Miami Party!

Book Club with Best Selling Author, Sarah Thornton

November 12, 6 PM PST / Via Zoom
(Socially distanced and in person if possible by this point)

Formerly the chief art market correspondent for The Economist, Sarah Thornton is the author of three critically acclaimed books. A Canadian, who lived in the UK for over twenty years before making San Francisco her home, Thornton was once hailed as “Britain’s hippest academic,” but she is now better known as “the Jane Goodall of the art world.”

Thornton will join us to discuss her book Seven Days in the Art World, which reveals the inner workings of the sophisticated subcultures that make up the contemporary art world through a series of day-in-the-life narratives set in New York, Los Angeles, London, Basel, Venice, and Tokyo. The book is cleverly divided into seven day-in-the-life chapters, each focusing on a different facet of the contemporary art world: an auction (at Christie’s New York), an art school “crit” (at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia), an art fair (Art Basel, Switzerland), an artist’s studio (in Tokyo with Japanese star Takashi Murakami), a prize (Britain’s prestigious Turner Prize), a magazine (Artforum) and a biennale (Venice).

RSVP to Lisa Cavigliano at lisa@sjica.org and let her know if you would like us to send you a hardcopy or a Kindle version of Sarah’s book Seven Days in the Art World

Virtual Collection Tour: Pamela and David Hornik

October 22, 6 PM PST / Via Zoom

Please join Executive Director Alison Gass for a virtual tour of  Pamela and David Hornik’s collection. The Horniks have built a powerful collection that is largely driven by a mission to create a more inclusive and diverse future for the contemporary art world. They also have fabulous taste and an incisive curiosity to meet artists and learn about the work in their collection. They will walk us through their home (virtually) and then join us for a Q and A!

Meet the First ICA Facade Project Artist AMIR H. FALLAH

September 24, 6 PM PST / Via Zoom

LA-based artist Amir H. Fallah walks us through his new solo-exhibition at Gallery Shulamit Nazarian. This is on the eve of the unveiling of his massive mural and installation project that will cover the entire front facade of the ICA in October. We hope you will join!
