Did you ever have a favorite mentor or teacher? Someone who really inspired you by way of listening and, by being supportive, paving the way for your success, and helping you to inspire others? We are excited to announce that, at this year’s event, we will be paying tribute to a favorite teacher: recently retired San José State University Professor of Art and Art History and Bay Area artist Gale Antokal.
Please join us on Saturday evening November 4th, 2023, for the Annual Benefit Art Auction at the Institute of Contemporary Art San José (SJICA). Now in its 43rd year, the SJICA Benefit Art Auction 2023 will pay tribute to long-time SJSU Art Department professor Gale Antokal. Antokal’s life, career, and work draw together important Bay Area legacies; having worked so closely early in her career with Jay DeFeo, and all those Antokal has impacted in turn: from Masako Miki, whose work is now on display writ large on the façade of the SJICA, to LOCAL COLOR founder Erin Salazar, to globally recognized Titus Kaphar, and many, many more.
