Vaccine Vial Project: Courage During COVID-19

In summer 2020 the ICA San José and SVCreates initiated the Vaccine Vial Project, asking artists to respond to the need to process and memorialize the pandemic. Timeline of Greatness, the winning proposal by artists Peter Foucault and Chris Treggairi, will be traveling to different vaccine sites throughout San José in November 2021, culminating in a large-scale installation in December 2021 at a hospital site in Silicon Valley.

Throughout September 2021, the artists programmed a series of workshops encouraging the public to share their voices about navigating the pandemic. The individual interviews filmed during these community engagements are collaged together in a multimedia digital artwork, employing over 1000 used vials as a filter through which to view the impactful video. Timeline of Greatness celebrates and honors healthcare professionals while also sharing the enduring stories of San José community members during the COVID-19 pandemic.
