PSA Convo: LigoranoReese

October 9, 2020, 12pm PST
@icasanjose Instagram Live

When:
Friday, October 9, 2020
12pm-1pm PST @icasanjose Instagram Live

How to join:
This event will live stream on the ICA’s Instagram Live TV Channel. You can join us here.

New York-based artists Nora Ligorano and Marshall Reese, who collaborate as LigoranoReese, create public art that questions social and political systems and how they relate, build, interact, or harm society. Adapting to the current climate, the artists have launched a new project entitled the School of Good Citizenship, a series of public art events focusing on civic engagement and voter registration in Charlotte, North Carolina.

On Friday, October 9th at 12 p.m. PST on Instagram Live, the artists will be joined by ICA Curator and Director of Public Programs Christine Koppes to talk about their School of Good Citizenship, how artists can advocate for justice, and why it’s important to get involved with this election. You can watch the PSA Convo here.

Their exhibition LigoranoReese: The American Dream investigates the cornerstones of America’s ideologies by turning words into tangible public art works, using ice to create sculptures which they call “temporary monuments.”

About P(ractice) S(afe) A(rt) with the ICA:
The ICA San José is delighted to roll out a plan for opportunities to engage with us during the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic. We’re calling these PSA’s from the ICA. Though they may be a lot like Public Service Announcements (they can educate and bring awareness!), here PSA actually means: P(ractice) S(afe) A(rt)!  These will include free programming for all of our audiences, member-specific programming, and even some physical outdoor opportunities to see Art. Join us as we celebrate our fortieth anniversary over the course of this year, delve into conversations about what the future of museums and arts organizations might look like after Covid-19, how museums are reinventing themselves, how artistic practice is changing, how artists are coping, and much more!

We look forward to seeing you soon as we all practice Safe Art together.

This project was made possible in part by a grant from the County of Santa Clara’s Historic Grant Program.
